The main aim of Indian Independence movement was to end British rule in India which lasted from 1857 to 1947. Behind the independence of India there was a harsh and disturbing history with many battles and movements which were led by patriotic Indian freedom fighters to free India from British colonialism.
Mahatma Gandhi also known as the “ Father of Nation” got this name because of his deeds like non-violent movements. He Studied law in London and when he was traveling to South Africa to practice law there, he was inspired to fight for human rights by seeing racial discrimination toward some Indians. Freedom fighter Mahatma Gandhi led various non-violent protests against the British people in his quest for independence, including the "Dandi March" movement, in which he took on his bare foot to remove the salt tax.
Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel is also known as the “Iron Man of India” because of being brave and epic from a very young age. He fought for India’s Independence from British control. And after the Independence, he was the Country's First Deputy Prime Minister and worked hard, and was dedicated to uniting India by bringing all the princely states into the union of India.
Bhagat Singh was Born in Punjab in a Sikh family. In 1921 bhagat Singh joined the non-cooperation movement and was the founder of the Naujawan Bharat sabha. At the age of 23, British colonizers hung him to death. He died as a proud martyr for his nation and popularized the term "Inquilab Zindabad".
Subhas Chandra Bose also known as Netaji was born in Orissa. He became a member of the Indian National Congress and participated in the Civil Disobedience Movement. He was against Gandhi Ji's Non-Violence Method of Freedom and found assistance in Germany and founded the Azad Hind Government & Azad Hind Army, now known as Indian National Army (INA), where he trained and supervised all freedom fighters.
The Queen of Jhansi-Rani Laxmibai was born in Varanasi on Nov 19, 1828. She is also known as “Manikarnika Tambe”. She inspired numerous Indian women to fight for their country’s freedom, and she still inspires women to defend their rights today. She defended her fortress with her infant child when British troops invaded it in 1858.
He joined the 1916 Annie Besant-led Home Rule League movement. He was detained multiple times during the struggle for freedom, and between 1921 and 1945 he spent a total of 9 years behind bars. He was an active member of the United Province’s Non-Cooperation movement and served as its leader. He participated in the salt satyagraha as well. While the Indian National Congress desired dominion status, Jawaharlal Nehru and Subash Chandra Bose believed that the Indian National Congress’s ultimate goal should be complete independence, or Poorna Swaraj. On August 15, 1947, he took office as India’s first prime minister.
